Melbourne Amplified Strings (MAS) was formed in 2019 by contemporary string players Xani Kolac (violin) and Anita Quayle (cello) to celebrate and explore the versatility of amplified stringed instruments.
This exciting performance at Hawthorn Arts Centre will feature special guest collaborators Mindy Meng Wang (Guzheng) and Sarita McHarg (Sitar) performing exciting new amplified music utilising electronic effects and live looping.

Presented by the partnership between MEMO Music Hall and Renegade Films (RocKwiz), as well as Row Jerry Row, ‘Keep The Circle Unbroken’ pays homage to the NITTY GRITTY DIRT BAND and features Tim Rogers, Abby Dobson, Mark Atkins, Kylie Auldist, Dave Gleeson, Emma Donovan and many more, backed by Row Jerry Crow band also with special guest musicians.
XANI will perform live in full trio format for a special one-off live ISO Session featuring Brooke Custerson (drums), Jacinta Caruana (BVs/FX) and Xani Kolac (violin/FX/vocals). This is a live stream and donations can be made via this website.
MAS (Melbourne Amplified Strings) will perform as part of MLIve’s Live Streamed Concert Series. MAS will present “DUETS” featuring Xani Kolac (violin/FX) and Anita Quayle (cello/FX). This live streamed concert is free and you can watch via Facebook or YouTube.
The Drunken Poet are presenting Tribute Tuesdays via Facebook Live Streams. XANI will play a bunch of songs by Australia’s own INXS. You can donate via the button on the Facebook Live Stream.
Each Sunday at 4pm AEST, join Xani for a live streamed gig from her home music room. Each gig will be based around a different theme and include songs that Xani has written and composed over the past decade, including Twoks songs and solo tunes. You can tune in and request songs from Xani’s vast catalogue of works and also hear upcoming releases performed live.
Every Wednesday night at 8pm AEST, Xani will be live streaming on Twitch.tv. Each week Xani will present a casual unpacking of contemporary violin technique including “chopping”, approaching electronic FX, live looping tips and tricks and heaps more.
